I
grew up in northeast Pennsylvania, not far from New York City,
the Appalachian Mountains and Philadelphia. It was only natural
for me to learn to love shoes, clothes and being active. Which
is why I choose to focus on recruiting for the sport and outdoor
industries apparel and footwear brands.
I
earned my BA in Marketing and Management from Penn State and went
to work with Generator Group, a search firm in Portland, Oregon.
There I met Lori and learned the importance of working with the
right team: Lori had an uncanny ability to see the big picture
while I have an obsessive attention to details. When I left Generator
Group and moved to the Bay Area, Lori and I decided that we had
to create an avenue for continuing our work together.
I’ve
maintained a close virtual community with an extensive list of
apparel designers, footwear designers, retail marketing talent
and brand managers. Recently, I have filled the following positions
for major players in the sport and outdoor industry: Apparel Designer,
Technical Designer, Footwear Designer and Developer, Apparel Product
Line Manager, Category Manager, Event Marketing, Retail Marketing
Manager, Director of HR, and Brand Manager.
I
am an active member of the Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition
as a volunteer on the Professional Development Committee and am
spearheading one of the organization’s new initiatives to
help better develop talent from outside the industry.
Favorite
place to travel: The beach, any beach
Three things I’d grab if my house was burning:
cell phone, ID and husband (maybe not in that order)
First album I ever bought: Air Supply. It was
an 8-track and I thought it had something to do with flying.
Best View I’ve ever seen: Mt. Rainier,
Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson from the top of the Oregon
Cascades on a clear day.

I
grew up in Atherton, California, with the disparate range of experiences
that only comes from a life with divorced parents: on the one
side I learned to brand cattle and on the other side I played
competitive tennis and ski raced for Squaw Valley.
During
college, I went to a weeklong family reunion in Montana and ended
up river guiding on the South Fork of Montana’s Flathead
River for four years. Winters saw me working cows in Minnesota
and finishing my degree at Bemidji State University. After college,
I got a job with AT&T and rose in two years to the manager
of a large team. When I was recruited to take a general management
job in South Dakota, I saw the dark side of recruiting and knew
this profession could use some help.
For
the past twelve years I’ve been recruiting great people
into companies like Adidas, Lucy, C9, Sara Lee Branded Apparel,
Horny Toad, New Balance, Brooks Sports, Keen Footwear, Yakima,
Hanna Anderson, Nike, Moving Comfort, Umbro, Transitions for Health,
Timberland, Reebok, Oakley, Intel, IBM, MCI, Swiss Bank, Perot
Systems, Chicago Board of Trade, Kaiser Permanente and more.
First
concert I ever went to: Ozzy Osbourne!
Strangest sandwich I secretly love: Brown sugar
and butter on white bread. Yum.
First car I owned: 1976 VW Bug in lime green
Favorite drink: My mom’s margaritas (and
I’m perfectly happy to share the recipe, just ask)

I
am a Colorado native – born and raised. When you come from
a place like Colorado, it’s natural that you love the outdoors
and all the sports that go along with it. I grew up skiing and
recently converted to snowboarding; I love camping and hiking,
and even know how to bait a line to bring home dinner.
I
earned my degree in Marketing at Colorado State University, took
a few sales jobs after college, and ended up in recruiting soon
after. I’ve now been doing recruiting nationwide for the
past twelve years, in a variety of different industries. I started
my own executive search and placement company, Capital Recruiting,
more than ten years ago and we’ve had tremendous success
recruiting for the nation’s top industries.
Recently
I decided to merge two of my passions: recruiting and my love
for the great outdoors. Teaming up with plum
means I can bring my talent and experience in the recruiting field
right into the industry that suits my lifestyle: the outdoor industry.
I couldn’t be more thrilled.
Favorite
thing to do on weekends: Spend time outdoors, doing anything
and everything, with my two great kids!
Most
extreme sport I picked up later in life and am glad I did:
Snowboarding
Favorite
Road to Travel in the US: Colorado I-70 Westbound, Glenwood
Springs Canyon
Why
I work with plum: I recruited Lori out of South Dakota
years ago and convinced her to join me in the recruiting industry.
We worked so well together the first time that I welcomed the
chance to team up with her again at plum.

I
grew up in Kanata, a prototypical homogenous suburbia just outside
of Ottawa Ontario Canada. All of the kids there were the sons
and daughters of lawyers, engineers, doctors and teachers and
the road that our lives were supposed to take on our path to adulthood
was already mapped.
Following
the crowd has never been a skill of mine. Instead I went off to
a university different than that of my friends and classmates
and during the summers sought adventure far away from home in
Canada's north as a treeplanter. I spent a month on a solo motorcycle
journey across the country and once I finished my degree I chose
to continue to spend my summers in the north country and enjoy
the winters traveling abroad. The peers of my youth had car loans,
mortgages and careers. I had long hair, a long beard, a back pack
and a very well used pair of Birkenstocks (I still have them).
Though my
need for adventure still reigned supreme the time came for me
to pursue more conventional employment. I worked in Calgary Canada
for 5 years before I was recruited to come to Portland Oregon
to rebuild a high-tech company. After 5 years and a legacy of
many success stories I once again answered the call of a recruiter
this time
taking a role with a VC company.
I spent 3
years - traveling 28 out of every 30 days, making tough performance
management & down sizing decisions - in blind pursuit of ROI
for the shareholders of our firm before I realized that I had
somehow managed to completely divorce myself from the person that
defined who I was during my youth. So I quit.
Though I did
do some light consulting work for a Portland Law firm I've spent
the last 2.5 years windsurfing, mountain biking, road riding,
fishing, sailing and spending long stretches of time in warm climates
during winter months. I've also spent this time as a key contributor
to the creation of plum, a business model designed
not to just to contribute to the bottom line of the owners (everyone
who works with plum is an owner) but also to
contribute to the success of all of our vendor and client partners,
the community of brands and the great people in our industry and
the habitat that we all play in.
